Introducing Mexico Nayarita Limited Edition

Mexico Nayarita

In a remote area of Northern Nayarit Mexico, a group of 16 Indigenous Cora cultivate patches of coffee within the remote mountain forests (Sierra Madre Mountains).  They follow paths worn by ancestors into their traditional lands.

Obviously they were happily included into Bird Friendly certification!  Unfortunately, due to climate chaos, their first harvest was very small.  Nevertheless, we are delighted to include what we were able to purchase from them as a Limited Edition this year.

This coffee makes a long and difficult journey from where it is grown to your cup!

While the farmers live in town, their farms lie deep in the mountains and are only accessible by a four-hour mule ride over rough terrain on a narrow trail. During the harvest, farmers leave behind spouses and children for weeks on end to tend, pick and process their coffee.

Once dried, the coffee makes its long trek down the mountain, strapped to the backs of pack mules in 30 kg sacks. It arrives in the community of Presidio de los Reyes to be stored and then sent to the El Duende Dry Mill for further processing and export preparation.

This natural processed coffee stands out with its toasty aroma, lush flavour notes and incredible long and balanced aftertaste. Experience a symphony of flavours: Deep dark chocolate, with long brown sugar aftertaste while ringing a lovely bright note akin to mint. Stone fruit and baking spices dance in and out of focus.  All this over a solid earthy base of oatmeal and brown sugar!  The very long and balanced aftertaste with brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg is memorable for hours.

The growers hope to preserve their culture and way of life by producing high quality coffee in the mountainous forest strewn with streams and rivers. They certainly produce an excellent coffee!  Lets help them preserve their way of life, and the ecosystems of their traditional lands by purchasing their incredible coffee!
